There is no other website that has more active daily users (27 crore Indians) than Facebook and Facebook Marketplace place a vital role in its web and app version.
So, What is the problem here?
Posting an ad on facebook marketplace is utterly simple but that’s actually a problem too. There are thousands of ads in each category and if you are not doing things the right way, trying to sell anything there is a matter of chance. You don’t want to leave your business to chance and that’s why you should follow the following techniques to maximize your items being sold fast.
First thing first, post a few good pictures of the items you’re selling. I strongly recommend that you take your items’ pictures on a solid color background like white or black. If your item is small enough, you can use a lightbox (picture below) to take good quality pictures.
These lightboxes are available at Amazon and Flipkart for as low as 250 rupees. There are some costly lightboxes with some extra features like the option to change the background, inbuilt light, foldable and so on.
But if you want to be frugal and don’t want to spend on accessories right away, you can use humble chart paper to take good quality professional looking pictures from your mobile camera.
Take pictures from each side of your item so that prospects can take a good look and be confident about your products.
Here are the images that I took with white color chart paper and my 2 years old iPhone SE.
As I said earlier, there are thousands of products in each category and there is always a good chance that someone surfing through your category won’t click on each ad and read the details about any particular product. So, you should give the most important details/features of your product and your contact number in the title of your ad. This will attract any serious buyer to your ad and your contact number will indicate that you are a serious seller.
For example, let’s look at two ads that I found on the marketplace and you can decide which one appeals you most…
This is one of the biggest drawbacks of the Facebook marketplace. Facebook is providing the software platform but they are not part of this entire buying/selling process so buyers have to decide themselves if a seller is good or bad and so on. This makes everything tough for sellers. As a seller, you have to prove that you are trustworthy.
So, you must have an active Facebook profile. If someone looks at your ad, 90% of the time, he/she will look at your profile before or after messaging you. If your profile doesn’t have any update or activity in a long time, I bet you will never turn that person into your customer. So, start being social on the social network. Interact with people and make a good amount of connections there. This will also help you with spreading the word about your ads.
Do you know that 77% of the sales get finalized after 5 or more follow-ups? So, if someone contacts you about one of your ads and then he/she doesn’t message back, send him gentle reminders about his inquiry and encourage him to ask questions about your product/delivery/payment method. You should not hard-sell.
Your goal must be to start the conversation again and try to find why hasn’t he ordered yet so you can eliminate that element from your selling process. If he has purchased the same product from any other seller, you must ask him politely the reason behind that. Most of the time people feel happy to share the reason.
This sounds obvious but stay with me with for a minute. You have to sell more items of the different budget. Cheaper items will give you less margin but they will get you more and more new buyers because people tend to try new sellers for cheap items. It is natural because that comes with less risk of losing money. If you play your cards right with them, they will buy your other costly products too. You should focus on building a relationship with your buyers.
Facebook Marketplace can bring serious money if done right and there are many sellers who are already doing it.
