WhatsApp has Announced its business API on 1st August 2018. It seems like they saw our last video where we talked about just that…
Until now, One would have to use a mobile number or landline number to create and activate a WhatsApp Business account and that’s why it was not a good fit for medium and large businesses and companies. In fact, any business with 2 or more customer support staff could not use it.
But Now it is a time for WhatsApp to contribute into facebook’s bank account after its 19 billion dollar purchase in 2014.
What Has Changed?
Whatsapp announced in a blog post that it will be rolling out API for businesses to create and activate account via facebook business manager.
By default, every WhatsApp account is linked to a phone number. So in this case, three types of phone numbers can be used to activate such accounts:
1) Landlines – Time-tested method to contact each other. Its useful for established companies.
2) Mobile Phone – Most popular among the crowd but companies can use it too.
3) 1-800-XXXX Or toll-free numbers – If those numbers can receive the SMS or Voice calls directly.
These accounts will take about 2-3 days to get activated and this process can be fast-tracked if you are a well-known brand.
Automate Your CRM
WhatsApp Business API users will be able to send/reply/update their clients manually or through an automated system. The API will allow them to include WhatsApp in their CRM.
Time Is Money – Literally
Another important change is that these accounts will be charged (punished?) to reply after 24 hours. Whatsapp Business API users will be able to reply to their customers for free within 24 hours but after that, it will be charged to them. The charges for each message will range from 0.5 cents to 7 cents depending upon the country.
Good News For Small Businesses Though…
An important update here is that WhatsApp Business App users will still be able to use it for free and interact with their customers for free. This payment tariff doesn’t affect them (not yet). So this is a good news for the current users.
